ABOUT OUTBACK RESTORATIONS

THE HISTORY

OF OUTBACK RESTORATIONS

Phill left school at the age of 15 and started full time work with a Plaster company on the Mornington Peninsula, Rosebud Plaster, where he spent six years working and being taught the trade by his well experienced Grandfather Ron and Uncle Brett along with the crew at Rosebud Plaster, Ray and Charlie Fellows.

Learning all the parts of the trade from battening jobs, hanging plaster, Stopping, Sanding and Cornicing. including installation of the old school Ornamental Cornice, Ceiling Panels and Roses.

"Plastering runs in the family! My Grandfather taught me most of what I know. My Father was also a Plasterer. My Uncle is a Plasterer and so to is my Brother. Whilst still at school I always wanted to follow in the family tradition and was lucky enough to be able to do so."

After around six years Phill went and worked as a labourer for a Building Company who does high end quality work. After two years he started his apprenticeship through the company. Whilst working on Renovations small and large to new houses he picked up new skills along the way learning all the aspects of carpentry and joinery.

"The best part about my apprenticeship was not only did we build houses but on the smaller jobs we would often do the tiling and sometimes the painting ourselves. So I learnt how to tile and paint as well."
After finishing his apprenticeship Phill moved to the Mildura area and started working for himself.
Starting a little family and his own Business in 2012.

Slowly getting his name out there Phill got a job on a sheep station in NSW repairing the shearing shed.
It was pretty worn down and in desperate repair in order for them to use it come shearing time.
A new Floor was put in as well as new windows and shoot doors.
"It was a great experience and the biggest job I'd done for myself before. Being out in the middle of no where and working on somethingI'd never worked on before."

"It was great, camping in the shearers quarters over night and then working on the shed through the day. The sunsets were perfect! I took a photo one night of the sunset and in the back round you can see the windmill. Just a great place to be."
Once the job was completed the owner came to check on the work to see what he thought.
"This looks great! Looks like an American Barn. It looks that good in here I think we will have my daughter's 18th Birthday party in here."

After the shearing shed Phill got on to another Sheep Station North West of Broken Hill.
This is where he spent the next few years.
Turning a Bedroom into a Kitchen and the old Engine Room into a Bathroom/Laundry. Renovating the Shearers Quarters Bathrooms and Laundry. Building Sheds and Tiling the Guest House. Filling in the Patio with windows and a door and a new Cool Room Paneling Ceiling. The jobs kept coming.

It was at this property where Phill came up with the name
Outback Restorations.
"I was on the phone to mum I think and she asked what I was up to.
Out in the bush restoring the shearers quarters, I answered her. After getting off the phone it just came into my head, well I'm restoring the shearers quarters in the outback.... Outback Restorations suits really..."
The name stuck and then was registered.

Mid 2014 , Phill and his family moved back to the Mornington Peninsula.
Continuing the business Outback Restorations.
With renovations on the Peninsula and plenty of people wanting Decks built before Christmas.
To the point we employed extra hands.
Still returning to Mildura and Broken Hill every now and then to do a few bits and pieces here and there.

The family all get involved with the jobs we work on. The kids love going to work and helping out!
